Gilt-lettered light blue cloth; spines a little tanned; a very good set in the pictorial slipcase (a little worn, creased and torn).

Album de Sport-Mondial N°13 (numéros 72 à 76) : Reims n'a pas d'héritier - Skiba a transformé le Stade - Un certain Monsieur Jazzy - Louison Bobet comme Coppi . Pelé remains one of the most beloved and iconic sports figures in history, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest football players of all time. I really liked this book because in this series you really learn a lot about a person in a little bit of time. What I particularly disliked is his self-portrayal as a caring family man and a man of faith, who cheated on his girlfriend (his future wife) before and during the marriage, which resulted in two extramarital kids. He played for 3 teams i could not remember the first one but the second one was Santos and the 3rd one was new York cosmos. Strong hands try to grab the ball from him and so Pelé hoists it aloft, partly in triumph, partly because he’s just trying to keep hold of the ball. I like how this book incorporates pictures on each page so that you can get a better idea of what event occurred. Great little interventions and personal additions make this feel more close to the heart and not just an odyssey of football exploits.

You get a real sense of how much Pele appreciated his fans and the opportunities he was given in life. It’s been featured by Apple, The Guardian, The UN, and Google as one of the world’s best reading and learning apps.Santos, at their peak, were probably the best club side in the world and Brazilian club football, the best domestic competition. These two volumes cover part of the life of Edson Arantes do Nascimrnto, known to the world as 'Pele'.

In 1962 he was on the Brazilian squad at the start of the World Cup but due to an injury suffered in the second match, he wasn't able to play the remainder of the tournament. It is said that, during the Nigerian Civil War in the late 1960s, the two sides agreed a 48-hour ceasefire so that they could watch Pelé play an exhibition match in the capital, Lagos! It is sweet to think of someone with as much talent as Pelé had being so excited to speak with another extremely talented player. He was a largely an uneducated boy from rural Brazil who seemed naive to the wide world in many ways. He was also the youngest player to score a goal in a World Cup, the youngest player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup, and the youngest player in a final of the World Cup!

The way he lists his 1000 odd goals and includes all sorts of friendlies and exhibitions has never sat well with me as no other player in history includes these stars. Pele, one of the greatest footballers of all time, was born Edson Arantes do Nascimento in October 1940 in Tres Coracoes, Brazil. During his career, he became known as "The King of Football" (O Rei do Futebol), "The King Pelé" (O Rei Pelé) or simply "The King" (O Rei). Last year, Pelé’s son Edinho claimed in an interview that his father’s health struggles had left him depressed and reclusive, embarrassed to leave the house.

However, because he isn't, he is reduced to books like these in an attempt to make money to match the lifestyle thatbhe should have been entitled to. For sponsors and commercial interests, he was an inexhaustible catalyst of ticket sales and product endorsements. For example, at the beginning Pele mentions that goals at friendly matches weren't counted towards his general career records, but then he goes on playing other friendlies and scoring goals that were adding up to his first 1,000. He was part of the Brazilian national teams that won three World Cup championships (1958, 1962, and 1970).

Virtue generates fame, and with the growth of television beaming his face and feats to a mass global audience, the reverse also turns out to be true.
