Hammered-down rolled roofing should not be used on flat roofs as this could lead to leaks. Pros of Rolled Roofing Lay the first length of the shed roof felt across the bottom part of the shed roof, ensuring the overhang is there, before nailing the top edge of the felt with galvanised nails. Try to achieve an even gap of around 50cm between each nail. Then fold the edges of the felt around the edges of the roof and nail them into place. 4. Lay the second piece of felt Felt is an extremely lightweight material, which means it can be used on a number of weaker and less structurally sound buildings, such as garden sheds and outbuildings without any concerns that it will be too heavy. Easy to install Another benefit of using felt on a roof is that it is relatively inexpensive, whilst still providing a good and durable roofing surface. This is why it is perfect for low-scale and relatively low-budget projects, to create a functional yet low-cost roof. Next, measure the surface of the shed roofing to calculate how much felt you’ll need – don’t forget to add an extra 5-7.5cm for overlaps at the edges and the gables. Generally, if felting a pitched shed roof you’ll require 3 pieces of felt – 1 for each side and then one to overlap the two edges, but this may vary depending on the size of the shed roof and the width of the felt rolls. 3. Lay the first piece of felt

Once you have added the shingles to both slopes of your roof, you should be ready to apply to ridge detail. For this task, you can use traditional shingles cut to shape or a shingle ridge roll. Felt Roof Ridge

Now take the second piece of shed felt and lay it across the roof, ensuring there is an overlap over the first roll of felt – try to ensure this is around 5-7.5cm. Again, nail the top of the roofing felt into place. 5. Add felt adhesive

Each tile has a bitumen strip which melts in the heat of the sun securing your shingles. As an option we offer felt shingle glue and this is also recommended by IKO. We recommend bitumen glue is at least used on the ridge tiles and the first leading edge roof tiles. We recommend shingle glue is used especially in the colder months as it takes longer for the bitumen glue to melt. Shingle glue is also highly recommended in very exposed locations. When cutting your shingles, make cuts on the ground. Try to find an even base to do this on. lay your feet out, around 30 minutes before you need it, so it has a chance to flatten out. A wooden board is best because it’s flat, and even, will prevent tears in your felt and protect your lawn from any chemicals that might leech out of the shed felt. What are the benefits of felt roofing?

Rolled roofing is very adaptable and can be cut into 12-inch by 36-inch strips to act as hips and ridges or 9-inch strips for eaves and rakes. Bitumen felt roof shingles are a classic choice for shed roof coverings and re-roofing a shed roof. These felt shingles make the perfect outbuilding cover because they are waterproof, inexpensive and good looking! Bitumen felt shingles come in an array of designs and colours to suit your style and the rest of your outdoor space. The next step is to begin fixing the felt to your roof. Use galvanised clout nails to nail the first sheet of felt onto the roof. We’d recommend nailing from the centre of the edge of the sheet and working outwards. Leave about 5cm between each nail, and ensure the sheet is pulled tight and sitting in line with the roof. 5.
