My personal recommendation is for the Crusader EHU but I’ve selected 2 others you may want to consider in my article for the 3 best electric hook up cables for camping and caravanning. Whichever type of cable you use we highly recommend you fully unwind it to allow any normal heat build up to disapate and avoid overheating of the cable and possible damage. These devices have one, two or three domestic-style three-pin socket outlets and a control box with safety features incorporating miniature circuit breakers (MCBs) and a residual circuit breaker (RCD).

Although it is a little more expensive, we recommend the Outwell Mains 3-Way-Roller Kit with USB and Light. We move the travel adapter when we are on-site to our single three-pin UK plug socket in the kitchen area. Generally mobile mains units are supplied with 16 amp cabling, but do check before you make a decision. Commonly used for caravan hook up leads, site hook ups, generator extension leads, industrial extension leads. However, campsites tend to have restricted supplies (they are generally rated at 16A or 10A, sometimes as low as 5A on campsites abroad), so you need to be careful what you use to avoid ‘tripping out’ the system. Not all campsites are run to the same high standards as those of the Club, but all should have their electrical supply checked each year and hold a certificate showing the supply has had its annual inspection. Never overload your cables rating, this will inevitably lead to the site post tripping out and may cause irreparable damage to your equipment. Arranging to mount it off the ground in other tents, especially those with flexible poles, can be more difficult.

Home Camping Camping Tips Using an Electric Hook Up (EHU) when Camping Using an Electric Hook Up (EHU) when Camping Posted by Gav Grayston. It’s great to be at one with nature when you go camping, forgetting about work or what’s on the television that night and enjoying the peace and quiet of the countryside or making your own entertainment. This usefully acts as a nightlight, and tucked around the side of the kitchen it is not too intrusive. If you overload your supply, it may just be a case that your RCD or bollard circuit breaker tripped out.

All campers have a responsibility to ensure that the cable from the post, the connection to their own caravan, motorhome or tent and that of the equipment being used is maintained to a safe level and respectful of other camp site users. When something is seriously wrong with electrical wiring or circuit, the RCD and/or circuit breaker trips disconnecting the circuit from power supply.
