But when fate takes a hand, Tiggy must decide whether to stay with her new-found family or return to Kinnaird, and Charlie . . . Lucinda Riley at the top of her game: a magical storyteller who creates characters we fall in love with and who stay with us long after we finish reading.’ – Lucy Foley, bestselling author of The Hunting Party

In its core, Sister is an emotional story about two siblings and their relationship. While there is a mystery going on (and it is quite a good one), the focus is never completely on that - which is why I enjoyed this novel as much as I did. A lot of thrillers focus on the twists and turns, and because of that, the characters end up being flat. Here, that is not the case. I loved reading about both Beatrice and Tess, and I loved how their bond was always strong, no matter how different they were. This is one of those rare thrillers that got me really emotional, and I cared more for the characters, than the mystery - and I think that is why I was really moved and shaken at the end, when I found out what was really going on. As for the plot, mystery-wise it’s not the worst one I’d ever read in a debut but to call it a thriller would be an exaggeration. Let’s put it this way- It did not keep me on my toes but admittedly I just did not care enough to try and keep up. Everything changes when she encounters a young woman in the woods and makes a life-altering promise. This commitment will shape the trajectory of her existence forever. I am not sure why Abi didn't just leave...period. There was no incentive in my opinion to keep her there. Meanwhile, a century earlier, an independent and headstrong woman named Flora MacNichol makes a vow to never marry. Content and secure in her Lake District home near her idol, Beatrix Potter, Flora’s life takes an unexpected turn when circumstances beyond her control force her to London, where she becomes entangled with Alice Keppel, a prominent figure in Edwardian society. Caught between passionate love and familial obligations, Flora becomes a pawn in a game orchestrated by others. It is only through a mysterious encounter with a gentleman that Flora uncovers the answers she has been seeking all her life.Russell Tovey on seeing ghost dogs and his first lead role in TV". BBC. 26 October 2020 . Retrieved 27 October 2020. Anna starts getting into Grace's head & sends her to a state of paranoia, Grace hates her & is consumed with rage when Dan admits to having a brief fling with her, this sends Grace over the edge she tells Dan its over. Grippingly claustrophobic....” not my words, but those of someone on the staff of Marie Claire. Hmmm, really. Prima cosa: se volete leggere un libro di Claire Douglas, vi consiglio "Local Girl Missing", che è un vero e proprio thriller e mi è piaciuto molto come l'autrice ha strutturato quella storia. Unfortunately Charlie is the girl that will be forever 24 years old. Her untimely death remains a mystery to us through most of the book. We know that Grace blames herself, but Grace also is someone with little self confidence that believes the worst in herself. We see several people around her take advantage of this and use it to their best ability to benefit themselves.

This one was a little too contrived for my liking. I think the author crammed in too many ideas - multiple deaths, fires, bullying, cheating, stalking and even a psycho for good measure. At some point, it was overkill. When Grace starts a campaign to find Charlie's father, Anna, a girl claiming to be Charlie's sister steps forward. For Grace, finding Anna is like finding a new family, and soon Anna has made herself very comfortable in Grace and boyfriend Dan's home.” The Sister is written alternately in the current day and the past. The chapters are titled NOW and THEN to differentiate between time frames and this worked well. During this time frame we follow Grace and Charlie as children, teenagers and Grace as an adult.I think this is Jensen's debut, and I really commend her for this strong first work. I really look forward to seeing what she comes up with in the future! Through her exploration of Anna’s life, Ally embarks on a journey of self-discovery, seeking answers about her own origins and the untold secrets of her family. As the threads of past and present intertwine, Ally’s quest to find her place in the world uncovers hidden truths and unravels the enigma surrounding the missing seventh sister. Seven Sisters Book Three: The Shadow Sister My mum always describes mediocre films and books as ‘quite entertaining’ or ‘diverting’. This book quite simply sums up both these statements; it was ‘ok’ and it did keep me entertained for a couple of days, but it is no great work of fiction. But something isn't right. Things disappear, Dan's acting strangely and Grace is sure that someone is following her. Is it all in Grace's mind? Or as she gets closer to discovering the truth about both Charlie and Anna, is Grace in terrible danger?” A chance meeting with a girl who bears a startling similarity to the lost twin sees Abi's life take an alarming turn in another direction. Is she moving on from her tragic past, or is this an unforeseen nexus, taking her closer to the past catastrophe that haunts her?

I had high hopes for this book--the premise seemed great and I love a good thriller, but, ultimately, I had trouble even finishing it. Carvel’s stringy-haired prophet of doom is Prof Bob Morrow, an “expert” in the uncanny and, as a possibly more lucrative sideline, a drug dealer who got involved with Nathan and the soon-to-be-missing-very-much-presumed-dead Elise Fox (Simone Ashley) on said dark night all those years ago. What rating do you give a book that definitely holds your interest and keeps you reading any time you can snatch a chunk of time, however small, yet leaves you disappointed and irritated when it ends? Which is more important - constantly being kept pulled into a story or coming away at the end of the book a satisfied reader???A grey ball of fluff is nestled on the stool of the piano that Dad taught me to play, hoisting me onto the leather stool virtually as soon as I could sit unaided." BEWARE GRACE ANNA IS WATCHING YOUR EVERY MOVE!!! she was a very nasty piece of work but I actually liked her she had flaws as so many other characters in the book do but I think the author pulled it off with Anna as she had a vulnerable side as well. I really enjoyed this novel which was a relief as I haven't been getting on that well with some of my recent choices! It is outside of my usual genre being fiction and non-Christian. Five years later, Charlie turns up unannounced, but before Grace can ask her what she meant by those words, Charlie collapses and dies. Each book follows the lives of seven adopted D’Aplièse sisters, each named after a star in the Pleiades constellation. The final Seven Sisters book tells the story of their adopted father, Pa Salt.

The Sister review: This ghoulish mystery is ideal Halloween viewing - Sean O'Grady, 27 October 2020". The Independent. Archived from the original on 18 June 2022.It's after this that events take a very nasty turn, and that interlude I mentioned at the start was very much appreciated! In the shadow of the magnificent Alhambra, Tiggy discovers her connection to the fabled gypsy community of Sacromonte, who were forced to flee their homes during the civil war, and to ‘La Candela’ – the greatest flamenco dancer of her generation. The book is written in the style of many letters and Bea is writing to her sister, as well as reminiscences and self reflections. The gaps in the plot may be huge and the ending is quite unbelievably awful (in my humble opinion) however, as a diverting read and a bit of escapism, you can forgive the author and thank her for the ride. The writing is good, and has some heart warming moments of sibling love and tenderness, and it keeps you interested throughout. The main character Grace is still reeling from the death of her childhood best friend Charlie. Grace "feels" things a lot so she has taken to drinking and drugging herself because her life has no meaning without Charlie. Though Grace has a great job, a wonderful boyfriend named Dan, and a great relationship with her grandparents, only Charlie is what matters.
