Description

General builders are able to buy Twistfix helical bars in a wide range of lengths and diameters; all with improved product tolerance and consistency. We have broken down the installation into simple easy to follow steps. The installation method outlined below applies to both window and door lintels. It is strongly recommended that you install helical bars at two levels above the failed lintel. His expert knowledge spans all products and systems that we sell at Permagard, including internal and external waterproofing, structural repair and green roofs. Whether on the technical helpline, behind the trade counter or with our How To guides, Chris makes sure that our users feel complete confidence in the systems and products we sell, and know how to use them to get the job done. If you’ve got a question about any of our systems or products, Chris will be more than happy to help. Helically twisted masonry reinforcementrods have for 30 years been used in the structural repair sector of the UK building industry; but do you know whether Helifix Helibars or Twistfix bars have been used? The original Helibars were invented and patented by Twistfix Director WilliamOllis, whorecentlyre-engineered his invention. These upgraded Twistfix bars are produced with a greater degree of product consistency to improve upon the performance of the early Helifix product.

What are helical bars? Helical Spiral Bars Explained - Permagard

HeliBar is a helical stainless steel reinforcing bar, with substantial tensile properties, used for strengthening and stabilising masonry in both new build and remedial situations. With the addition of a second bar, the stress forces that act on the lintel are further redistributed. The tensile strength exhibited by a lintel reinforced with a helical bar surpasses the alternatives, often many times over. With the lintel restored, you remove the risk of the lintel failing and any dangerous repercussions. Installing Helical Bars for Lintel Repairs Retaining the strong belief that our portfolio of high quality, sustainable and technologically advanced buildings are best placed to take advantage of the evolving central London commercial property market. Easi-Fix Helical Bars are manufactured from 304 grade stainless steel and each bar is cold rolled to further harden the steel and increase its tensile strength. During the cold roll/ twisting process the unique fin design is formed which imparts strength and allows the anchoring grouts to form a cohesive bond to the bar. Our unique helical structure is designed with over 25 years’ experience and offers the user complete confidence in the product’s ability to perform over time. Easi-Fix - Specialist solutions. Made possible. Helical bars are buried into slots made in the wall surface. The slots are typically orientated horizontally along the face of the wall and the bars are bonded to the masonry using a high performance polymer modified grout. What are the applications for helical bars?Helifix HeliBar Remedial Helical stainless steel reinforcing bar for masonry repair and new construction Clear all loose debris from the newly chased apertures and use clean water to ensure they are thoroughly flushed out and wet-down before installation of the grout. Wetting the masonry reduces suction of the liquid from the grout. This guide aims to answer these questions and take you through how to repair lintels with helical spiral bars. Twistfix helical bars are bonded into slots that have been cut at pre-determined levels within the masonry. In the longer lengths they are used mostly in lots of four, two rows each with a pair of bars, to form the upper and lower flanges of a deep masonry beam which will carry quite a large area of masonry above an unsupported area. It does this by redistributing the load placed on the structure to solve any problems which may have been caused due to localised structural movements. In this article, we're sharing read on for more information on the several types of helical bars available and their different purposes. Below are the most common helical bars used for construction and structural repair purposes. What are Helical Spiral Bars?

Insert a further bead of HeliBondover the exposed HeliBar, finishing 12mm from face and ‘iron’ firmly into the slot using the HeliBar insertion toolHelical spiral bars also provide extra strength in footings, parapets and retaining walls. They can be used during new construction or remedial work in existing buildings. Push the helical bar firmly into the grout to around two thirds of the depth of the slot. Make sure that the bar extends 500mm either side of the window or door. YOU SHOULD REPEAT THIS PROCESS FOR THE SECOND LEVEL. THE SECOND LEVEL IS CREATED BY CUTTING ANOTHER SLOT FOUR COURSES ABOVE THE FIRST USING EXACTLY THE SAME METHOD. Once correctly installed, helically twisted bars provide strong reinforcement to fortify lintels and give a property a new lease of life. Installation is complete in seven easy steps, which are listed below. Gregg is the Technical Operations Manager at Permagard and one of our experts. Apply a second bead of anchor grout into the slot, making sure that the first bar is completely covered. Trowel away any excess grout before adding the second helical bar. This bar should reach around half the depth of the slot and be at least 10mm from the first bar. The Easi-Fix Helical Drive Tie has been labelled as the more reliable and faster way to tie facades together. The ties can also be installed through cavity wall insulation, providing high strength and flexibility. Although the job may sound expensive, the installations costs are relatively low.Helical bars have great axial strength when grouted into walls. They are able to spread loads and accommodate natural and cyclical movements within a building whilst holding the components firmly together. The reinforcing bars are generally concealed within mortar beds to disguise installation.

Where timber lintels are used, often in older properties, you are at risk from wood rot (wet and dry) as well as wood boring beetles. This can affect the structural integrity of the timber and mean that need you to replace or repair them using helical spiral bars as outlined in this guide. As owners and creators of a growing portfolio of best in class buildings, we are very aware of the considerable part the built environment has to play in carbon emissions and waste generation. We are therefore committing to ambitious yet realistic targets to ensure that our activity is having the lowest possible impact and where possible, making a positive contribution both socially and environmentally. Sometimes lintels don’t exist in the first place. When there isn’t a lintel above a window, it usually means the masonry was built directly onto the window frames. In this instance you can create a new lintel using helical bars. You can do this by installing two levels of helical bars using the method outlined above.

The Helifix HeliBar is a helical stainless steel reinforcing bar, with substantial tensile properties, used for strengthening and stabilising masonry in both new build and remedial situations. A particular advantage of helical stitching kits is their ease of application. Helical bars can be inserted into existing masonry with minimal effort or disturbance, providing excellent strength while leaving no visible mark on the wall’s exterior. The ties can be installed using a SDS-Plus shank hammer drill to drive and countersink the tie. The unique design of the helical tie means the tie can be easily driven into a 5.5mm pre-drilled pilot hole. The fins of the tie undercut the masonry when being driven into the substrate to provide an expansion-free anchorage that will withstand tension and compression loads. Pump a second bead of the WHO60® grout to fill each slot evenly to within 15mm of the wall surface.
