Sometimes referred to as corn flour, cornstarch is extracted from corn and is used in a variety of industrial, culinary, and cleaning applications. Originally created in 1844, this staple is common in corn-growing places in the United States and other countries. According to one analysis, diets rich in refined carbs and foods with a high glycemic index may be linked to a greater risk of coronary heart disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure ( 5).
