The inMusic Software Managerwill be saved as an application in your computer's Application or Programs folder. Just open the inMusic Software Manager to access your software and installers at any time! The Input Ports section in MIDI/Sync Preferences will display all available MIDI input ports in a list. Devices will automatically appear in the list when connected provided that Enable MIDI ports when discovered is set to ON. I bought this keyboard for my new travel rig and have taken it on countless adventures around Los Angeles, Austin, NYC, and the greater Boston area. I ended loving it so much that I downsized from my trusty old Axiom Air 61 (just gave it away!) and put this on my desk. It's slightly longer than the apple magic keyboard with numeric keypad but has the perfect size to sit right in front of my keyboard anywhere I go. I really wanted a keyboard with more than 25 keys that would fit in airline carry on sized bags and this fits the bill. If the firmware shown on your display is lower than "v1.13", you will need to perform the firmware update for your MPK mini Plus.

MIDI Channel - MIDI data can be assigned to travel over 16 different channels per MIDI port. The MPK mini mkII has one port, the USB connection, meaning you have 16 different channels over which to send the data from the keyboard. In most cases, this will be used to send different MIDI parameters to different areas. For example, the most common use would be sending the pads on the MPK mini mkII to one instrument (i.e. drums) and the keys to another (i.e. piano). The CV/Gate outputs are for sending control voltage (CV) and/or Gate signals to optional external synths or sequencers. Use standard 1/8” (3.5 mm) TS cables to send a single CV/Gate signal through the following outputs:Disconnect other USB-MIDI devices from the computer. Rarely, other USB-MIDI devices could interrupt communication between the MPK mini Plus and the updater. It's best to just disconnect these if possible. AKAI’s MPK Mini family has found fans with a diverse range of musicians and producers from those needing to play and program on the move to those who just don’t want their gear taking up lots of space. The MPK Mini Plus expands on the Mini and Mini PLAY in a number of ways, the most obvious being its larger keyboard, fitting in 37 mini keys to their 25. But it’s also a much more expansive controller, with a bunch more ports and its own onboard sequencer making it capable of standalone MIDI and CV triggering as well as working with computer-based software. So what’s new? The MPK mini mk3 comes with 3 AIR plugins that can be installed directly from the MPK mini Software Manager. These virtual instruments are a great way to expand your melodic ideas.

Take the USB cable for your MPK mini Plus and connect it to your computer, but do not connect the MPK mini Plus yet - we'll do this in the next step. Immediate first thoughts: The unit feels well built and sturdy with an almost metal feel. It was plug and play with Ableton Live 11 and Pro Tools 2023. Solution home Akai Pro | MPK mini Series MPK mini Series | Setup and Tutorials Akai Pro MPK Mini Play | How to use the EditorThis keyboard is a great value for the price in my opinion. Sure there are cheaper keyboards with the same amount of keys. There are even cheaper keyboards with more additional options such as more faders, rotary controls or more transport controls for example. However I was quite suprised about the build quality and overal quality of this keyboard. The key bed might be mini keys, nevertheless they do feel very nice for a relative small and compact keyboard. from SoCal on February 1, 2023 Rated 5/5 I love this midi controller. Great when paired with a newer model MPC! CC or Control Change - This is a MIDI protocol that will send a range of values between 0 - 127. Each knob or fader can be assigned to a CC number which will then send a value of 0 at it's lowest point and a value of 127 at it's highest point and every value in between. For example, the knob K1 is set to CC1 and when turned all the way up, the MPK mini mkII will send a value of 127 over CC1. Before getting started with the editor, take a moment to learn about some of the common terms and symbols you may encounter during the editing process. These are common MIDI terms and will be good to know if you're just getting started with your MPK Mini Play and the world of MIDI and audio production: Incorporating the same keybed from the MPK Mini, the MPK Mini Plus enhances this expressive design with the addition of dedicated Pitch Bend and Modulation wheels. Providing added expression for both live performances and studio sessions, the inclusion of the wheels expands your sonic palette, allowing you to make on-the-fly changes to timbre and pitch. The Gen 2 keybed has been optimised to capture every nuance of your performance, providing maximum expression for highly accurate articulation. From creating loops and full songs, the MPK Mini Plus provides you with everything you need to get there.

You have successfully logged in to your inMusic Software Center. You will now be prompted to begin your MPK Mini 3 setup. When Chords mode multiple notes will be played with a single key press. Scales mode will set the keybed to play only within a certain scale. Lo/Hi- This determines the value range of a CC message (as discussed above). Mostly used for encoders like the ones on the MPK mini mkII, this can be used to decide how much of a parameter is changed during the course of the knob's movement.Although I wasn't in a great need to get an extra keyboard, I am very happy to be able to add the MPK Mini Plus to my collection and it will probably be used more often than the other keyboards on the long term. The “endless” encoders allow you to dial in parameters with ease, perfect for controlling automation, volume and other settings. Simply assign any of the encoders to a parameter within your music software and dial in your settings without boundaries.
