Wormeries are a means of natural garden waste disposal, using worms to turn compostable material into nitrogen-heavy natural fertiliser. In addition to this, whenever you cover up food with newspaper or cardboard, you will never be able to tear it perfectly to fit along the rounded sides. They encourage the worms to work in the freshest waste, thereby speeding up composting and reducing odours. I wanted to do that because I had far too much "fresh" food to go striaght in the wormery, and I hoped by bokashi-fermenting it the worms would get through it quicker.

Worm Farm and Compost Conditioner – developed to help neutralize acidity and balance pH levels so that your composting worms can digest larger quantities of waste faster.Within the Can-O-Worms® we’ve built mounds that encourage worms to move from the collector trays to the working trays. This clever design incorporates built in mounds to encourage worms to move from the collector trays to working trays, features a unique flow through ventilation system to maximise performance and no mess extras like well-designed legs and a drip free tap. We found it to be sturdy and were impressed with the versatile design, which includes castors for easy moving. The world’s bestselling worm farm, this Can-O-Worms has been designed to make turning your waste into a useable, nutrient rich vermicompost easy and efficient – it’s simple enough for kids to use to get into enjoying recycling!

Adding an extra Working Tray to your worm farm will allow your worm population to grow, increasing the amount that you can feed your worms. Heed their needs, and they’ll be able to produce for you some nutrient-rich and valuable source of compost. Red wigglers eat a lot (they can actually consume organic materials more than their weight for each day), can multiply in number real fast, and can live-off of spaces that are confined and congested. You may be planning to keep your wormery covered or somewhere enclosed, in which case you may find our list of garden storage ideas helpful as well as our guide to the best garden sheds. Composting Worms – worms will be sent out with your wormery unless you specify you would like to receive a voucher. We were also impressed by the well-planned design which features a V-shaped sump and stepped interior. Full instructions are included, please note we supply this with or without the exclusive Worms Direct worm and bedding kit. On a technical note, I'm ready to harvest my first lot of compost (or at least see if it's ready to be harvested). Once you have filled this second tray with waste (again on a daily basis) then the first, lower tray will be ready for the vermicompost to be harvested. It has a total capacity of 80 litres but the large surface area means worms can process up to 2kg of waste per day. Other than that, it’s very handy to have at home, since you can easily place it indoors (beside your kitchen counter, under your sink, by your balcony) or outdoors.Compost worms feed mainly on bacteria, protozoa and other micro-organisms so a fresh new bedding will not be appetising to them. However there is more to feeding a worm farm than just chucking food in the ant proof feet don’t work in North Queensland. Otherwise you will see the extra cost options for a courier to deliver your package – please note there is no guaranteed next day service to these areas so please allow extra time and track your package for information.

Comes with a book of simple instructions, complete with frequently asked questions and answers, in their Can-O-Worms®. Also, when I take all the tiers off, what am I likely to find in the base - just a few worms and some liquid? Like most stacking tray systems it has a base with a tap to drain leachate, to this the legs are attached, the first tray has the worms and bedding, to this the kitchen waste is added, when full the next tray is added into which the waste is placed for the worms to move up into. Our testers found the trays easy to handle but that the “stop” between them prevented worms from working upwards, even though aeration was improved. At the moment I'm using damp newspaper - one of the chaps on Gardeners Corner forum said that's what they use. You will need to drain your wormery using an included tap or outlet every few days and the liquid can be diluted to a 1:10 ratio of water and used to feed your plants.
