Description

Inspector Salvo Montalbano is in charge of the state police station in Vigàta, a fictional town in the fictional province of Montelusa (see locations) in Sicily, Southern Italy. There, sitting in the sun like a prince, was Pasquano, at a little table loaded with cakes, pastries, probably cannoli -- likely enough food for the breakfast room of a 20 or 30 room hotel, with Signora Pasquano hovering over him, wringing her hands and making sure everything was okay. Montalbano investigates a brutal attack on a young woman, who manages to drive herself to the entrance to an apartment block, where her naked body is found wrapped in a blood-soaked towel.

Having solved the case, the Commissioner will have Pasquale temporarily released to accompany him so he can attend the year-end party and therefore have the opportunity to savour the delicious croquettes made by Adelina. These episodes will be based on Camilleri’s The Cook of the Halcyon and Riccardino, the 27th and 28th titles in the “Montalbano” book series. These intense sessions, akin to unorthodox psychotherapy, allowed him to manipulate the very core of his actors' beings. Il Commissario Montalbano è da record: ecco i 5 motivi per cui il poliziotto di Vigata piace a tutti" (in Italian).

On a road outside Vigata lies the abandoned scooter of a girl, Susanna Mistretta, who was going through a difficult time because of her terminally ill mother's depression. Lisetta took refuge with Lillo to escape the abuse of her father (Lillo's uncle), who had been molesting her. Complicating the investigation is the strange behavior of Mimì Augello, Montalbano's deputy, who has become grumpy and quarrelsome, who is embittering everyone's life in the Vigata police station. Combines two short stories: "Il gatto e il cardellino" appearing in Gli arancini di Montalbano by Andrea Camilleri and in English as "The Cat and the Goldfinch" in Montalbano's First Case and Other Stories by Andrea Camilleri, (S.

The final episode was actually filmed in Agrigento, where Camilleri was born, and Ragusa, both in southern Sicily. She is attracted to Montalbano, who at first resists her, but eventually succumbs to her blatant advances. He wakes from the dream to the reality of the disappearance of Michela Prestia who had been seduced into prostitution. The old man is too cultured and refined to be a simple vagrant, and they discover that he was once a surgeon who resigned after the death of a patient. The victim, a two-bit loan shark working on the side as the founder and director of a theater company, acted like a Svengali among his theatrical acolytes.

The next theft is from the safe of a jeweller named Pierrera, who is later found dead, having committed suicide. He finds out that the charity for the elderly and disabled where Piccolomini was residing, was just a cover for the illegal transportation of drugs, which were cleverly hidden in the walking stick that the old man carried, and that the dog Orlando had been trained to attack the sniffer dogs who would have detected the drugs, but were deterred from approaching the old man and let him pass undisturbed onto the ferry. Combines two short stories: "Par condicio" appearing in Un mese con Montalbano by Andrea Camilleri (not yet translated into English) and in English as "Neck and Neck" in Montalbano's First Case and Other Stories by Andrea Camilleri, (S. Meanwhile Montalbano comes to the rescue of his neighbour, Liliana Lombardo, whose car has been vandalised and he offers to give her a lift to work each morning while her car is being repaired. Assuredly, rabid Montalbano fans will continue to enjoy both the series reruns and the beautifully written books upon which these stories are based for years to come.
