Dimbaya (Abene)

Wakily d'Abene

This very colourful dance troupe bases its music on traditional songs and dances from Casamance, mostly using the mandinka drum Seourouba. Also with mampara dancing. With Dimbaya and Mama AFrica, it is the most popular group of the village, followed by children as well as elderly people!

Ballet Mama Africa (Abene)

Bernard Diatta, the founder of Mama Africa gathered the children of the Karoninke community of Abene and thanks to hard work and commitment brought to life the youngest troup of Abene. Mama Africa performs traditional ballets of Casamance.

Troupe de danse Allunkaw (Abene)

The dances performed by the group are typical from the Casamance region and originate from the Karoninke ethnie's tradition.

Ballet Casadimansa (Abene)

The name of the group means the King's hut. Casadimansa performs traditional ballets of Casamance.

Ballet Theatre Bitinibaa (Abene)

Bitinibaa is the name of a clearing next to the rice fields in Abene, where wild animals come to drink. The troup was founded in 1992 and performs traditional ballets with music on djembes, bougarabou, seourouba and dun dun. They mix music and ballet with theatre and show the daily life in a village of Casamance.

Groupe Hamake Kalone - Ilan Mane and the women of Kafountine

The group comes from the rural area of Kafountine, near Abene. "Hamake Kalone" means "Glory to the Karoninke ethnie". Its founder Ilan Mane, has adapted the congas to the seourouba, traditional Mandinka drum.

Kapumba de Tendouck

The troup performs traditional plays and ballets, among which an initiation ballet called Emoumby.

Bouly Diawara

"The Kora is a traditional instrument with a mystical origin. It was a gift from the Devil Dialy Mady Bouling Cissokho in a mystical place called Sani Mintering in Gambia (source: IFAN - Institut Fondamental d'Afrique Noire). The kora, often called African harp, is an instrument traditionally handmade with 21 strings, a calabash usually covered with antelope skin." Doman Doman (Ziguinchor)

The group performs traditional ballets with djembe, dun dun and seourouba. Three ballets were presented in 2001: Casamance in the moonlight, traditional wrestling and diambadong.
