The way Daisy spoke – the pink in her cheeks and the gleam in her eyes – gave away the lie behind what she was saying. it would be lovely if hazel and alex have some more chemistry and he pays less attention to daisy who isn’t interested at all ! She told her it was a prank to frighten Lysander, who she was in an abusive, toxic relationship with. I hope that Hazel will get the lead role instead of Daisy (of course Daisy will be very unhappy about it) but I want to see Hazel more in the spotlight rather than Daisy.

I thought that they might perhaps be in love, and I saw from Daisy’s scowl and narrowed eyes that she did too, but then they began to chatter away to each other about people I didn’t know, leaning their heads together just like our schoolmates Kitty and Beanie, and I realized that they were simply very good friends. I’m reading this back two years later (when incidentally I am currently reading Death In The Spotlight to catch up for Death Sets Sail) and comparing it to the actual plot.I also think that one of the characters in Romeo and Juliet will get poisoned before the play, and die in the spotlight. I almost don’t want to get to what happened, because I am still reeling from what Daisy and I saw – what we found – but of course I know I must.

She takes the role afterwards and she is the least likely suspect already with an alibi compared to some others, such as the husband of the actress, who suspected there was something more than just friendship between Hazel’s relative and the actor who played Romeo, but Daisy finds a pair of scissors in her study with bits of the safety wire caught in them, so Hazel is cleared of blame. And there, at the very top of them, where the new playbills for Romeo and Juliet should have been, was a row of simple black-and-white posters that gave me chills as I read them. As well as directing, I will play Juliet’s confessor, Friar Lawrence, and Romeo’s bosom friend Mercutio will be played by Mr Simon Carver.Then, she dressed up as Annie and posed as her for the next several days (the two women looked quite alike). I was rather confused, but also highly amused, for it was so odd watching Daisy at a loss for words. I’m more likely to take off the tiara if you tell me to, and if I take off the tiara I’ll look less glamorous. She was quite an ordinary height and size, with long blonde hair, but there was something about the way she moved that made it impossible to look away from her.

Annie went on, talking about feet and sand and swimming and mothers and fathers and families and babies and birthmarks and bathing costumes again.There was a feverish atmosphere seeping into every corner of the Rue, as though the whole cast was sickening. Daisy looked so shiningly excited that I tried to ignore the roaring black gulf that had opened up in my stomach.
