I say hard, the were written well, but if, like me, you relate to Penny and her life, you might find the reactions of those close to her hard to read as well. It’s easy reading, and contains a good mix of true to life everyday issues, secrets and lies, trials and tribulations, happiness and health, and ill health. Fern, My Story was published in November 2008 by Michael Joseph and it ranked among the Top Ten Bestseller list by The Sunday Times. The character Ella didn’t feature in it as much as I hoped and felt she was in it to set up her own story in another book which is perfectly fine but I feel the synopsis on the back of the book is a little misleading. But when her sister turns up to share the news that her mother has died at the same as her popular television programme is cancelled Penny struggles to cope.

In December 2007, she went on a secret trip to Basra to broadcast behind-the-scenes footage of the troops. I was so excited to receive an advanced copy of this book, I have read all of Fern Britton's novels and really enjoyed them.

Taking a look at the listings of these books, I realised they are a series, however, it didn’t seem to matter that I hadn’t read any of the others before-definitely can be read as a standalone too. From the bright and breezy cover of this book, I thought I would be in for a pleasant, easy-reading chick-lit book. Penny Leighton, TV Producer and wife of the local vicar Simon Canter, is struggling to cope with motherhood. Through Penny’s childhood memories we see how the two girls were treated very differently, especially by their mother, and Suzie was clearly the favourite.

Unbelievable characters, even more unbelievable plot, and a complete lack of any Cornish atmosphere whatsoever. In the present day, she comes across as devious and conniving and some of her actions were just awful!
