By combining West African music, dance, singing and crafts workshops in a specific project, the aim is to help develop personal development, which is often lost in the competitive environment of Western society.
The teachers invite people to discover and exchange their own talents and achieve together an artistic goal. When they start opening up,looking and smiling at each other, they can finally share their learning and enjoyment.
The practice of arts and the exploration of creativity can often unlock feelings which have remained hidden and help people release an incredible energy. Around the world, drumming - especially the djembe - has demonstrated healing benefits. Pure enjoyment puts illness in the background, contentment heals resentment in those with behavioural problems, illness, autism or depression.
Multicultural diversity does not mean just people from different continents; it also includes all the different ethnic groups living together within one country. The study of the arts and the variety of cultures within West Africa is very rewarding - physically, mentally and socially - and creates a cohesion in a group. It helps bringing people together, accepting each other for what they are. It is about communities building more resilient, positive neighbourhoods.
