About this deal

He is laid bare with some incredible images from both on stage and behind the scenes, alongside informative, humorous and interesting comments.

During this time Rock documented the rise and descent of Ziggy Stardust, and shot promotional films, album jackets, posters, artwork, videos like Life on Mars and Space Oddity and thousands of photographs. But I would still recommend this to a true Bowie fan wishing to treasure these images of not only a music legend, but a true artist. In keeping with the strategy of its subject, the book blurs the identity tracks combining public appearances (concerts, press conferences, photo session) to the intimacy of the artist (lodges, travel), to appear in the be.

The photographs, while not all perfect shots, are beautiful, and David's commentary is both fun and insightful. There were colour pop mags and several of the pictures featured in this fantastic book were on my bedroom wall. David Bowie's sharp, often humorous text discusses the origins of this fascinating stage persona, comments on Mick Rock's photographs, and overall gives unprecedented insight into Ziggy's stratospheric two-year career. I always keep this book with enthusiasm in my room : I love his beautiful cover some sepia and psychedelic, it offers the opportunity to follow the life of Ziggy Stardust and step in its constitution, in the beautiful and abundant pictures Mick Rock and almost timeless creative texts by David Bowie, as his album "The Rise and the Fall of Ziggy Stardust" reissued for the 30th anniversary of this title there a few years . Now, on the 50th anniversary of Bowie’s acclaimed album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, the book is available again.

Alongside Mick Rock's reflections on these incredible images, David Bowie adds his own thoughts: discussing Ziggy's origins ad giving an unprecedented insight into the stratospheric two-year career of his alter-ego. Recently, Mick Rock has worked with stars like Kate Moss, Michael Stipe, The Chemical Brothers and The Libertines. Live pictures are balanced by informal shoots - Bowie in the dressing room, applying stage make-up, travelling, or socialising with musicians and friends including Lou Reed, Iggy Pop and Mick Jagger. Exclusively for Genesis subscribers, for a limited time a short run of books are being presented as Publisher's Copies. In 1972 David Bowie released the instant classic The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars—a record without which any Greatest Albums of All Time list is simply incomplete.Mr B has never previously gone on record in such detail about the origins, inspirations, mutations and peregrinations of our inimitable idol, Mr Stardust. which] features a 15,000-word text by Bowie, who's hardly ever gone on record, certainly not at such length and with so much detail, about Ziggy and the glam era. It’s a massive coffee-table art book, with lavish images of Bowie in the Seventies from photographer Mick Rock. They capture the span of Ziggy's 18-month reign: the early English concerts where Ziggy and the Spiders made their name; Rock's classic images of Bowie at home at Haddon Hall; Bowie's collaboration with Lindsay Kemp in the ground-breaking shows at The Rainbow; the breakthrough tour of the USA; the massive sell-out UK tour culminating in Ziggy's retirement; recording Pin Ups in Paris; and Ziggy's final swansong, the flamboyant 1980 Floor Show. Also included are formal studio sessions for the Pin Ups album sleeve and the four pioneering music videos that Mick directed and filmed for Bowie.

Produced from the negative at Rock's preferred photo lab in New York, the colour C-type reproduces a stunning live shot of Bowie onstage at London's Earl's Court, in May 1973, and is suitable for framing (203mm x 254mm / 8" x 10"). From the beginning of Ziggy to the end of Ziggy, Mick Rock captured the essence and almost everything else to do with David Bowie's Ziggy character. Following his passing, he was fondly remembered by many musicians and photographers alike for his talent of distinctly capturing his subject. The trains themselves had such great names: Texas Chief, St Francisco Zephyr, Broadway Limited, The Wolverine, Abraham Lincoln, National Limited and many more.Mick Rock was the only photographer authorised to capture Ziggy officially and travelled alongside him and the Spiders From Mars, on train journeys, through to hotel rooms, video shoots, backstage, onstage, film sets, hanging out with Jagger, Reed and Iggy and more.
