Might be best to get a smaller, easier tactic book and this one to follow Even though i love the idea of 5334 puzzles, it might not be my first choice because of the randomness of the puzzles (and it is HUGE!

However, checkmate is much easier to achieve when we have an advantage in material, namely more pieces.Chess Exercises for Beginners is exactly what the title suggests: a compendium of instructive chess positions (often studies or positions from actual games) that illustrate important tactical motifs and combinations for new and lower-rated players, ranging from common checkmate patterns, double attacks, skewers, deflections, and drawing opportunities. Chess masters Franco Masetti and Roberto Messa have done they explain the basic tactical ideas AND provide an enormous amount of exercises for each different theme. Then I thought, starting over, what if just Qc2 immediately threatening mate, but then I realized after Nxg4 Rxg4, that there's no longer any threats.

The name is a slight misnomer — I wouldn't recommend it to literal beginners — but it should be appropriate for people over 1400 Lichess rapid, and is certainly a good first puzzle book to get. A wonderful mix of various tactical motifs and a great assembly of exercises that really should be in every chess book collection. Willemze uses all his experience as a coach, and his familiarity with the famous Step Method, to carefully build up your chess knowledge step-by-step. In hindsight, I can see why it's a good move and can imagine the train of thought that could lead one to considering that move.

I'm 1700 on Lichess Rapid right now, and I joined a club recently, I don't have a rating at the moment, but they've paired me against 1500 rated USCF players who I've been at least equally matched against. Thus it’s more a book about familiarising one’s self with tactical patterns and improving tactical awareness, vision and basic calculation skills. On a slight tangent, I find this to be an infuriatingly common slip-up with chess literature — hide the damn spoilers! If an unim peded king is in that square with the opponent to move, the king can prevent pawn promotion. and PLEASE, i know it's boring but if you've read and recommend book(s) in particular, could you add a reason why?

Chess Exercises for Beginners is a very good first puzzle book, and people well past the proper use of the term "beginner" can get some serious use out of it. As the author says in his preface (his emphasis): ‘"},{"attributes":{"italic":true},"insert":"Where should you go if you want to become a tactical wizard? In this position, which is almost identical to the preceding one, Black can save both pieces with the simple move 1 .
