About this deal

A former psychotherapist and founder of the Hunter School, a residential and day school for children with ADHD, he lives in Washington, D. Failure to be fully aware of the environment and notice the faint sound might mean a swift and painful death or the difference between a full belly and hunger. This book helped me better understand ADHD and gave me practical strategies on how to deal with these children in the classroom. Genetic variants (such as the DRD4 7R allele, as well as others on DRD4 and DRD2) conferring susceptibility to ADHD are very frequent—implying that the trait had provided selective advantage in the past. An appeal of his book is questioning why ADHD is primarily inherited and why 10% of the population has ADHD.

With our structured public schools, office workplaces, and factories those who inherit a surplus of ';hunter skills' are often left frustrated in a world that doesn't understand or support them. As someone who has been confirmed to have a lot of ADHD traits, I found this book fascinating, inspiring and easy to read. As hunters, they would have been constantly scanning their environment, looking for food or threats (distractibility); theyd have to act without hesitation (impulsivity); and theyd have to love the high-stimulation and risk-filled environment of the hunting field. When your life depends on split-second decisions, your frustration and impatience threshold necessarily tend to be low. A former psychotherapist and founder of the Hunter School, a residential and day school for children with ADHD, he lives in Portland, Oregon.Hartmann then provides fifteen stories of individuals with ADHD, stories that are very revealing in opening the reader to a greater sensitivity in recognizing ADHD. He reveals how some of the world’s most successful people can be labeled as ADHD hunters and offers concrete non-drug methods and practices to help hunters--and their parents, teachers, and managers--embrace their differences, nurture creativity, and find success in school, at work, and at home.

The traits associated with ADHD (hyperfocus, multi-tasking, high levels of energy, out-of-the-box thinking) helped me thrive as an entrepreneur. I stumbled upon this book when looking for information that could help me better understand the depths of the condition, and it seemingly came to me at the exact time I needed it. Not unlike that quintessential of all Hunters, the lion, they have incredible bursts of energy—but not necessarily a lot of staying power.I recommend beginning with something broader and more informative, and then if you run on female hormones read something specific to adhd in women (Sari Solden is brilliant) before you dive into this one.
