About this deal

Again if you do not like swearing then by now you should know that these books wont be for you but if you have started here then be warned the language is flying and if the F’s, and S’s and even the C’s offend then please don’t read this one you wont like it. Conversely, I haven’t read the Jack Logan books (that these are a spin-off from) and don’t think that mattered - although of course now I fully intend to, as Kirk’s humour is right up my street. Lesson learned … “reviews are good, but take time before falling for something based on the reviews”. We’ve actually just started doing some Logan and Hoon series merchandise, exclusive merchandise whose proceeds are going to local charities based here in the Highlands.

Once again, Angus King’s narration was superb so I thoroughly recommend the audiobook if you don’t mind all the swearing. The first book, The Killing Season, was published by Orion in 2014, followed by The Samaritan, The Time to Kill (titled Winterlong in the USA), and Don’t Look For Me. What was it that took you down that path of publishing, and what kind of benefits do you think it grants you as the author? After reading the first book in the DCI Logan Series, A Litter of Bones, I picked up the first Hoon and the next few Logan. When I was learning about self-publishing I joined a couple of Facebook groups, and I got involved in those. While the outcome is no great surprise, there’s no guarantee that all of Hoon’s unlikely friends will survive so it was still quite a tense listen.

Again this was led by people just asking for merchandise, so I thought since I’ve been so well supported in the area, we could use this as a way of giving a bit back into the local area. Don’t get me wrong it still had the normal foul mouthed ex superintendent along with his sister Berta backing him up . Even though it is hilarious and is intended that way if you aren’t amused by bad language then this absolutely wont be for you! Like Die Hard it takes place during a single day, and what we at first think is happening is by far not the whole story. Then when people were asking about merchandise, I had all the rights, so I did T-shirts, mugs, and we were able to exploit audio fully, because a lot of my books the audio rights were with the publishers but they never did anything with them.Guest appearances by the DCI Logan team are the cherry on the top of this high intensity crime showdown. This conscious framing of the book as a Die Hard set in the Highlands is complemented by Bob Hoon, who’s written very much in the hard-boiled mode with a number of genre winks and familiar characterisations. It is an excellent read for fans of Reacher and Bourne, or anyone who loves great action flicks or books. I want to warn readers that this story is violent, bloody, brutal and full of language, the language just as strong as the others, and if not more violent, by far more gory.

I am looking forward to reading more of the Logan and hopefully Hoon novels and books from Kirk’s other pen names. Barrington Stoke is an award-winning, independent publisher, and the market leader for struggling, reluctant and dyslexic readers. He swore he’d never set foot there again, but almost four decades after he left, Bob Hoon is finally going home. But a lot of people like that lingering in a place and establishing the scene, so it fascinates me how different readers respond to different ways of writing.
