Similarly, in episode eight, a horse called Moonstone was a real circus horse and used to performing.Local girl Callie is upset at the treatment of one of the horses while at the Circus. Appealing to the Colonel, she tries to get help, but to no avail. Undeterred, she steals the horse and with the help of Steve, hides it away. As the Police investigate, the horse is discovered, but by then the Colonel has agreed to buy the horse from the Circus. As well as the Follyfoot books, the author also wrote The World's End series, which although more of a general animal-orientated series rather than pony, does include a strong pony element. They are all excellent reads. She later wrote a fantasy type series which also has a horse theme, although once again perhaps not strictly pony books. I thought people can be cruel but what happened to some of these horses is disgraceful, well written Hugely well remembered, Follyfoot (which was shot all on film) is one of the best family drama series ever, unlike most such series it never strayed too often into story of the week territory, maintained continuity throughout its three season run and mixed adventure and humour in equal measure.

One Pair of Hands (Michael Joseph, 1939; re-published by Penguin Books Ltd, Harmondsworth, and Penguin Books Pty Ltd, Mitcham, 1961, book number 1535) Thames Tug 1 9 5 3 (UK) 6 x 30 minute episodes Jimmy Spurgeon (Sean Barrett) is a schoolboy who finds himself in… Dora is now the owner of Follyfoot, but Steve is unsure whether she'll be able to handle the responsibility. The horse improves however and the owner's faith is restored.Dora and Steve are invited to the Colonel's house for lunch to meet a young friend of his. But Dora takes an instant disliking to him due to his boasting. She challenges him to a show-jumping race, which he confirms he will win. While it's going on, the Colonel is taken ill and Dora abandons the race. She later realises that his ill health could mean the end of Follyfoot. Monica led an interesting life. She was born in London in 1915. As a child she was expelled from school. She has worked as a cook and a nurse in the second world war, these experiences resulting in her humourous autobiographical works including One Pair of Hands and One Pair of Feet . After these books she began writing novels. She has also worked as a journalist, and with various chariites such as the RSPCA, NSPCC and The Samaritans, expeirences which once again are reflected in many of her books. The Follyfoot series is deeply concerned with the maltreatment and rehabilitation of horses and her adult book The Listeners is about the Samaritans. In 1951 she married an American and lived in America for many years, returning to England for the last few years of her life. Follyfoot was broadcast by ITV for two years, until 15th September 1973. It was repeated for a further two years after the initial run. It used to be broadcast in the late afternoon every Sunday. It was repeated again in the 1980s.
