About this deal

Her father plans to cut his financial support and he already expressed his intention in front of entire family. It's just good, dirty, murderous fun, with no one to care about because no one is worth caring about. Eldest daughter Catherine and her husband, leave in a huff, followed closely behind by beleaguered middle child, Dan and his wife, Lisa.

That was an ordinary Easter dinner till their lovely father started talking about how much he got disappointed of his children and they suddenly left the dinner in anger including their more than 2 decades caretaker Irena who stood up for kids. And their vindictive, extremely irritating auntie Audrey knows their secret, already pissed off to be excluded from half share of the wealth, smelling blood, coming after them. This really is the sort of thing you dream of, if you’re raised by a single mom and your friends are wealthy. Once you start reading, you won’t want to stop… With every clue, every lie exposed and every truth revealed, Lapena keeps the reader guessing right up to the very end.She fears the day when Sheila twists an ankle in those heels and goes down with the turkey on top of her. I read Lapena’s “The Couple Next Door” in addition to this and now I want to read even more of her books! No more jumping to their father’s tune, no endless years of depressing, dutiful visits to old-age homes.

This felt like the book version of the movie Knives Out in many ways, quite honestly; but it was fast-paced and kept me very entertained throughout. I put on my super sleuth hat- not easy to do while driving and tried to do some detective work of my own. The owner of the mysterious truck, a small-time drug dealer, reports to the police that he saw a car in the Merton driveway late Easter night with a vanity plate with Irena’s name. Sometime between that dinner and the following Tuesday morning, Fred was stabbed to death and Sheila was strangled. Not a Happy Family moves effortlessly between murder investigation and family melodrama, with Lapena letting the wild secrets and shocking revelations rip.I think I've finally figured out that I adore her mysteries (someone is killed and there are multiple suspects), while I don't like her domestic thrillers (husband or wife could be lying, so are they or aren't they).

He’s none of his parents’ favorite, left excluded and has every right to reflect years long boiled anger in different ways. There's no shortage of suspects among the children, and rarely has there been a more detestable group. The chapters are quick, jumping from one POV to another, and I liked the narration of the audiobook.

There’s a Porsche 911 convertible; Fred Merton likes to drive that one, but only in the summer, when he throws his golf clubs in the trunk. Well, pretty much everyone who was related to them had a reason to, as Fred was a first class jerk to his three children and Sylvia stood by and let it happen. Readers then learn what happened Easter night: Jenna, after fighting with her father about the money, plotted to murder her parents. You’ll love to hate the flawed, spoilt characters in this addictive, fast-paced drama… This is a well-plotted whodunnit with twists and turns in every chapter to keep readers on their toes. One of her hairs was found in Irena’s car, which was seen outside her parents’ house on the night of the murder, but Jenna insists it could have transferred to Irena when she hugged her after dinner.
